Safeguarding

All adults who come into contact with our pupils have a statutory duty of care to safeguard and promote their welfare.

Our staff are trained in accordance with the latest standards, which applies to all adults, including volunteers working in or on behalf of the school.

Safeguarding children goes much wider than simply protecting them from neglect and abuse. It is also about keeping them safe from accidents, crime, bullying and actively promoting their welfare in a healthy and safe environment. We take the following steps to help ensure our students are safe from harm:

  • Form time/PSHE/assemblies are used to train students and address current local and national issues
  • We have developed strong links with Place 2 Be, supporting the mental health of the young people at Oak Wood School
  • All staff are trained in how to support our young people and how to spot the early warning signs of any safeguarding issue
  • We work closely work with the Local Authority, implementing support as and when it is needed, with the help of trained professionals
  • We have created a supportive community where we take care of each other and know where to get support when it is needed

The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Miss E Turner: eturner@oakwoodschool.uk
